currently working towards my Ph.D. in Chemistry at Yale M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College B.A. in Chemistry from Middlebury College

Experience

I have a degree in chemistry from Middlebury College - a small liberal arts college in Middlebury, Vermont. At the collegiate level, a chemistry curriculum is a beautiful blend of chemistry, math, and writing. Therefore, I have confidence that I can help you achieve success in any of these three integral subjects. Hopefully along the way you'll also catch my contagious love for theses subjects as well. :) I have been tutoring for the past three years in a variety of subjects. I believe my greatest strength is teaching students how to learn on their own. Ultimately, a tutor should not be a crutch but a facilitator towards independent learning. That being said, chemistry - at any level - is my specialty and my favorite. It's so holistic and uses math to explain many fundamental principles. My chemistry courses were the ones that taught me the language of math. I had to understand formulas to understand chemical principles. Therefore, my chemistry background has made me a better math tutor because I understand an application to many mathematical concepts that seem irrelevant or too abstract for practical application. I also tutor for many standardized tests. Specifically the GRE (the Graduate Record Examination), which is like the SAT for graduate work. I have experience tutoring for the SAT and ACT as well. Similarly, AP exams and SAT subject tests are always a fun endeavor for both the student and myself. Each test requires its own specialized strategy, and I'm here to help you through them all! Tutoring has become a passion of mine over the years. Watching someone go from a frustrated student to a blossoming learner is rewarding beyond words. Moreover, I love getting to know my students and try to illustrate how their studies may be relevant to their interests. My tutoring style does alter from student to student. For instance, some students need someone to push them others require a more relaxed presence. Contact me for more information! Ask me anything: references, further credentials, favorite color, etc. I always respond to texts, calls, and emails.
