Experience
As a student in the Yale Journalism Initiative, I have studied literary and reportorial journalism with Burkhard Bilger of the New Yorker and Bob Woodward of the Washington Post. My work has appeared in the New York Times and Narratively. Additionally, I currently work as an essay tutor at Acceptance Ahead, a college applications consulting company in New York. This summer, I was one of the less than ten percent of applicants selected to participate in the American Society of Magazine Editors internship, which I carried out at Inc. Magazine. At Inc., I fact-checked and vetted the 500 companies that appear in the September issue (the largest of the year). Additionally, I edited, pitched, and wrote stories for the website, one of which was selected for the print edition of the October issue. On campus, I am a board member and editor for The New Journal, Yale College’s premier long journalism publication about Yale and New Haven. I fully understand how daunting the college application process can be: in some ways, one essay can significantly affect the course of one's life. That's why I believe in a comprehensive and thoughtful approach—a quick read-through simply won't do. Every essay I read receives line edits for clarity, grammar, and flow. The next step—if desired—is a diligent assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the essay, and what elements of the narrative should be changed or restructured to optimize chances of admission.
